Finding time to read is difficult. Everyone knows it's essential and has an incredible impact on health. It boosts intelligence, relieves stress, increases empathy, and it can even make people live longer. As a visual designer myself, I have had difficulty finding the time to read. But over the years, I've discovered these five tips that encouraged me to develop a reading habit where I read every day.
Read MoreTypography is an important foundation of graphic design. It is one of the first principles students new to graphic design learn. It is vital to the practice and there is so much to learn about it. From the design of the characters, their purposes, the types of typefaces, and using them in layouts. There is no doubt that it takes lots of time, practice, and experience before any designer can call themself a typographic master. Reading books on typography can help speed up that process just a bit. Here is the list of typography books every graphic design student needs to read:
Read MoreYes, you’ve read that correctly. After years of collecting books and building my personal library to over 300 books I’ve decided to not only stop collecting, but to also get rid of them all. As a bibliophile, and as a designer who is obsessed with printed ephemera, this is a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.
Read MoreMy favorite thing to do is browse the internet for books, especially ones I’ve never seen before. As the seasons change, I anticipate lots of new books to be released. After browsing all of the publisher catalogs, online forums, and online shops I compiled a shortlist of books every graphic designer should keep their eyes out for in the next coming months. Here’s my most anticipated list of books for graphic designers coming out this autumn:
Read MoreA new page has been added to Bibliografik titled, “BLM Resources.” This page is similar to the “Resources” page but focuses as a directory for black voices within the visual design community. Here you will find a growing list of black designers, typographers, illustrators, creatives [both current and past], bookstores, articles, videos, books, charities, organizations, foundations, etc. I plan to update this weekly [ideally], if not monthly [realistically]. Please note that most of the articles are not written by BIPOC, and some of them do focus on inclusion in the design community in general, instead of specifically on the inclusion of Black Lives in the design community. These articles will be replaced as similar content authored by Black Lives is found.
Read MoreBranding is one of the most collaborative and diverse fields of both the business and design industries. It blends strategy, research, marketing, and design into one experience that can make or break a company. With the increase of start-ups, the effects of social media on businesses, and the desire of clout from followers, the demand for branding has never been greater.
Read MoreDuring my time at university, I was always encouraged to think about the whole problem instead of each individual part while working on projects. I always advised to think about the end-user, the audience who was interacting with my design work. From the first day to the last, I was encouraged to not only think visually, but contextually as well.
Read MoreIt’s been a hot minute since my last post, and I do apologize for that. Over the last few weeks I have gone through the process of cutting back some of my freelance work, and accepting a position at a library outside of my city.
Read MoreAs a new year approaches, the catalogues of new books that will be released soon become more irresistible. I can never help but casually scroll through them on my laptop or phone as I wait for some other task to take precedent…
Read MoreWelcome to part 2/2 of my unannounced personal update of the week. I know it’s been a while since I have posted my last book review and flip through, but I am still in holiday mode where I’m having trouble getting back into the swing of things. Don’t get me wrong, I am still reading; probably reading more so now than ever to start chipping away at my extended TBR. And to be honest, I added some more publications between my last update and me posting this.
Read MoreAs the year came to an end, and a new year took it’s place, I’ve decided to finally sit down and reflect on some goals that I would like to achieve this year. These goals aren’t too serious or unobtainable, but I think it would be nice to have something to strive for.
Read MoreIt is that time of year once again where all of the bookish people in the world begin to share their additions to their collections by posting their post-holiday book hauls. One I received a few books, I decided to the exact same. Why not? Despite the tone heavy consumerism, these things are actually fun to watch, read, and look at. It is always interesting to see what the current reading tastes of all of my favorite readers are.
Read MoreHello! First things first, I hope you are doing well! We’re finally in that weird resting zone in-between Thanksgiving and the Holidays where we scramble to find the perfect gifts for loved ones, while simultaneously trying to avoid leaving our homes so we don’t have to deal with the overwhelming amounts of people trying to do the same thing.
Read MoreReaders with extensive to-be-read lists and bloggers with copious ideas for posts is absolutely nothing new. But when these two realms merge, it becomes difficult to keep everything in order. So that’s why I recently purchased a project planner.
