Some Changes are Coming
Hello,
It’s been a hot minute since my last post, and I do apologize for that. Over the last few weeks I have gone through the process of cutting back some of my freelance work, and accepting a position at a library outside of my city. Now, you’re probably thinking, “Why would you do less graphic design work to work as a librarian?” And well, that’s because I will still be working as a graphic designer. Which, to my surprise, is an actual position that libraries are beginning to look for as the awareness of the benefits of graphic design in community institutions is increasing. When I saw the opening for this position I nearly died. Ever since I was a preteen I have always wanted to work in a library, but I was never actually interested in becoming a librarian. Alas, my dreams have finally come true.
This being said, I have come to the conclusion that the shift of the type of content I post is going to inevitably change. As much as I love reading, documenting, reviewing, and discussing books regarding design, I have noticed that the process is becoming monotonous. When I started Bibliografik, it was with the intent that young designers who were looking to curate their own design libraries could use this blog as a resource to pick and choose which books would benefit them the most. But with the conflict of trying to curate my own library, what I read at the moment, and trying to post on here, I lost sight of my original intent. I’ve become uninspired from consistently reading books with the same information and advice, the same design examples, and the same dry writing. Don’t get me wrong, I typically enjoy reading these, but I just need a break.
But no worries, I have developed a new content plan, as well as some adjusted goals for 2019 (which will become transparent in the next few days). The content will begin to extend outside of just books on design, and will begin to incorporate the realms of book cover design, books that inspire and can be used as typographic / illustrative / layout inspiration, how graphic design relates to library systems, graphic design tutorials for librarians, as well design thinking and UX for libraries. Although not set in stone quite yet, my main goal for Bibliografik is to shift away from the notion of being a design resource to help curate personal design libraries, but to become a resource for designers interested in books, as well as anyone who is interested in how the worlds of graphic design and libraries merge.
I’m extremely excited about this move towards producing more interesting and varied content, and I hope you are as well. This being said, I will still be present on Instagram (and will hopefully more engaging) but I’m not sure how I will incorporate Youtube into this. I might still primarily utilize that for book flipthroughs in the meantime unless there is a demand for other content there.
Thank you so much for being a part of this journey with me, I don’t know what the future holds, but I’m already excited to share it with all of you.
Cheers,
Zack
